The campaign that began the continental journey.
Dyslexia Project 500 was created to take dyslexia awareness to 500 primary schools in Africa. It was Dyslexia Project Africa’s first major school awareness campaign.
Campaign figures reported in the Second Anniversary Impact Report, September 2026.
Dyslexia awareness, school by school.
Launched in September 2024, Project 500 set out to bring awareness into primary schools. Volunteers took part in school outreach and sessions, while teachers and parents were part of the wider learning conversation.
The campaign reached 524 primary schools and educated more than 27,000 pupils about dyslexia.

Schools are a practical place to begin.
Project 500’s reach—524 primary schools across five countries—demonstrated the scale that school-based awareness can achieve. The report highlights schools as the right place to start, volunteers as central to expanding reach, and teachers as an important part of awareness sessions.
These are programme-level lessons described in DPA’s report. It does not publish a separate evaluation of outcomes by school or country.
